Billy Nelson was born and raised in Muncie, Indiana.  He began his musical career immediately after high school, teaching himself guitar.  Almost immediately, Billy formed a band with singer/friend Bret Cook.  This Christian Rock Band became known as Bret Cook & Exodus and was highly successful both locally and regionally.  Bret Cook & Exodus recorded their first and what proved to be their only album in early 1987.  Billy not only played guitar and sang on the record, but also wrote two of the tracks for the album.

The next major step in Billy's career was stepping in to replace Cliff Bell Sr. in the #1 Muncie Area Top 40 Band at the time, The Luxury Band.  Billy played with The Luxury Band for about 3 years, which proved critical in expanding his musical influences and experience.  Soon after The Luxury Band experience, Billy formed the band "Paradise" which was the first time Billy took over both the lead guitar and lead vocal responsibilities.  With Paradise, and his next project The Mustangs Billy began to expand more into Country Music.

After successfully fronting these bands for a couple of years, Billy decided to make the move to Nashville to pursue music full time.  Almost immediately after moving to Nashville, Billy hooked up with Florida native George Whittaker II and toured extensively throughout the southeastern U.S.  Playing over 250 shows a year for nearly 3 years, Billy gained invaluable experience during his time with the George Whittaker Band.

Billy then did a 2 year stint with J.T. Curtis & The Silver Eagle Band, continuing a heavy touring schedule throughout the U.S.  This Tampa, Florida based band was known for it's high energy stage show and packed the audiences in at every venue.  Next, Billy was part of a Nashville project, McKenzie Ridge,  which showcased to several major labels.  McKenzie Ridge, was a contemporary pop/country blend of smooth vocal harmonies and intricate musical productions.  Several labels showed interest in this project, but the band parted ways before signing a deal.

Billy quickly shifted gears and took the lead guitar position with nationally touring country artist Sandie Brookes.  With a new cd and video, produced by Nashville legend Vern Gosdin,  the band traveled extensively all across the U.S.  After 2 1/2 years on the road with Sandie Brookes, Billy took over the lead guitar responsibilities for Nashville based Music City Records recording artist Derryl Perry.  After nearly 3 years and over 600 shows with Derryl Perry, Billy landed a job playing for Parallel Records Recording Artist Jeremy McComb.  Billy currently lives in Nashville and is on tour with Jeremy McComb.

Billy says, "I feel so lucky and so blessed, I have an amazing miracle little babygirl, I get to do what I love for a living, and the future is wide open.  It's been a long crazy road that has led me to this point, but I guess looking back now it was all just part of the natural process of paying my dues as they say.  If I could go back and do it all over again?  You bet I would, but I would definitely hope to end up in the same place, just maybe a little sooner, and with a LOT less heartbreak along the way ! "
